Pilotage
The Port of Cork Company is responsible for pilotage. Pilotage is compulsary for all vessels in the area between Number 20 Buoy in the Lower Harbour and the quays at Cork. For vessels exceeding 130m in length pilotage is compulsary from 2.5 miles off Roches Point
Towage
Towage is provided by three tractor tugs. There are two privately owned tugs on station in the port - one of 50 tonne bollard pull is equipped with fire fighting equipment while the other is 17 tonne bollard pull. The port owned tug is a modern, efficient 46 tonne tractor tug.
Radio Communication
The Port Operations and Information Station is located at Cobh. The station, which is equipped with V.H.F. Radio Telephone, maintains a twenty-four hour listening watch on Hague Channels 12, 14 and 16. It enables ships to obtain up to the minute information regarding movements on the river and it is through this station that the requirements of the Harbour Master are made known.
